Alaska

Alaska is more than twice the size of Texas, and most of it has no roads connecting it to the rest of the state at all.

Cruise ships and small planes handle a lot of the sightseeing here, past glaciers calving directly into the ocean and coastlines thick with whales, bears, and eagles. Juneau, the capital, is only reachable by air or sea, with a glacier visible from town. Anchorage, the largest city, works as a base for day trips into genuinely wild country.

Summer daylight here can stretch past twenty hours depending on how far north you go.
