Sedona's red rock formations draw hikers and photographers year-round, and Phoenix and Scottsdale run a huge golf and resort industry built around near-guaranteed sunshine. Summer heat in the low desert is genuinely dangerous, which is why most visitors shift toward the cooler months or head up to Flagstaff's higher elevation instead.
