Mississippi

Mississippi is where the blues actually started, and the Mississippi Delta region still has juke joints and small museums dedicated to the musicians who shaped it.

Jackson, the capital, anchors the middle of the state, while Biloxi on the Gulf Coast mixes casinos with a seafood scene built on fresh Gulf shrimp and oysters. Civil rights history runs through the state as heavily as it does in Alabama, particularly in and around Jackson.

It's a state worth visiting specifically for the music history, if nothing else.
