Oklahoma

Oklahoma sits at the crossroads of the Great Plains and the South, with more original Route 66 pavement running through it than any other state.

Oklahoma City has rebuilt its downtown around the Bricktown entertainment district and the Oklahoma City National Memorial, a serious and well-done tribute to the 1995 bombing. Tulsa, further northeast, has its own Art Deco downtown and a growing arts district. The state also has one of the largest Native American populations in the country, and several tribal museums cover that history directly.

Cowboy culture here is genuine, not costume.
