Applegate Park Zoo

A modest, community-scale zoo on West 25th Street in Merced with around 75 animals, many of them California natives from wildlife rescue centers, manageable in an hour or two with young kids. Sourcing many of its animals from wildlife rescue centers gives it a genuine conservation angle beyond simple entertainment, and its modest scale means a visit fits comfortably into a half-day itinerary alongside other Merced stops.
