Graceada Park

Graceada Park is Modesto's oldest city park, dedicated on April 4, 1907, and designed by John McLaren, the same landscape architect responsible for Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. The park's name is a portmanteau honoring Grace Beard and Ada Wisecarver, wives of the two families who donated the land, and it grew out of an early-20th-century civic beautification push led by the Women's Improvement Club of Modesto.

Today the eight-plus-acre park includes the half-dome Mancini Bowl amphitheater (built in 1935 in Spanish Colonial Revival style by WPA craftsmen), pickleball and tennis courts, a splash pad and wading pool, playgrounds, and mature century-old trees that give it a shaded, established feel uncommon in the rest of the Central Valley.

Its distinguishing feature is the Mancini Bowl, which hosts a free community summer concert series and has functioned for generations as an informal rite-of-passage stage for local schoolkids and performers, making the park as much a cultural gathering point as a green space.
