San Luis Reservoir State Recreation Area

One of California's largest reservoirs, roughly 35 minutes south of Patterson via Interstate 5 and Highway 152, popular for boating, fishing, and windsurfing thanks to reliably strong afternoon winds funneled through Pacheco Pass. It's a genuinely big-scale outdoor destination compared to anything in the immediate Patterson area, with multiple boat launches and campgrounds spread around the lake. Summer afternoon winds that make it popular with sailors and windsurfers can also make the water choppy for casual swimming, so it's best treated as a boating and fishing destination first.
