Patterson

Patterson calls itself the Apricot Capital of the World, and the claim holds up: the surrounding orchards have grown and shipped apricots since the early 1900s, and the town still yields tens of thousands of tons of the fruit every year.

That agricultural identity is on full display each spring at the Patterson Apricot Fiesta, a tradition running more than fifty years and the clear centerpiece of the town's calendar. Outside of festival season, Patterson is a small Central Valley town built around Plaza Circle, a roundabout downtown that circles the Patterson Historical Museum.

It sits just off Interstate 5 between the Bay Area and Fresno, which makes it more of a convenient stop or an overnight base than a standalone destination.
